Stuckey’s 19 Points Pace Sandburg Women in Season-Opening Victory

The Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team kicked off its season with a 59-53 at Danville Area on Tuesday night.
Sophomore Danayzia Stuckey (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) went 5 of 7 from 3-point range and 7 of 10 overall for a game-high 19 points to lead the Chargers (1-0). Freshman forward Yvonne Mixon (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) added 12 points for Sandburg on 6-of-7 shooting. Mixon also had a team-leading five rebounds for the Chargers.
Sandburg hit 11 3s in the contest and shot 47 percent (23 of 49) from the floor. The Chargers took a 22-19 lead into the locker room.
The Jaguars had three players score in double figures, led by Kylie Vogel’s 16 points.
Sandburg will play a pair of home contests this weekend. The Chargers will host Elgin at 6 p.m. Friday and Waubonsee at 1 p.m. Saturday at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
